Mundal Lagoon (Sinhala:මුන්දලම කලපුව,Tamil:முந்தல், Muntal) is alagoon inPuttalam District, westernSri Lanka. The lagoon is sometimes referred to asMundal Lake.
The lagoon is linked toPuttalam Lagoon to the north by achannel. The lagoon's water isbrackish.
The lagoon is surrounded by a region containingrice paddies,coconutplantations andscrubland. The land is used forprawnfishing andricecultivation.
The lagoon hasmangrove swamps,salt marshes andsea grasses. The lagoon attracts a wide variety ofwater birds includingherons,egrets,terns and othershorebirds.
