Muhammad Idrees (Urdu:محمد ادریس) is a Pakistani formerfootballer who played as aleft winger, andmanager. Idrees representedPakistan national team from 1973 till 1976, and later served as head coach of the national team from 1996 till 1999.[1]
Idrees was born inLahore, and later moved toKarachi after joiningPakistan Airlines.[2]

Idrees played forPakistan Railways before moving toPakistan Airlines in 1975.[1] He won theNational Football Championship four times with Pakistan Airlines.[3] In the1981 final, Idrees scored a brace in a 2–2 draw againstPakistan Air Force, until winning the title through penalties.[4] He also helped them win the1984 Inter-Provincial Championship. He represented Pakistan Airlines in the 1977 and 1982 editions of theAga Khan Gold Cup.[5]
During the 1970s, Idrees was one of several Pakistani players which represented club sides in and coached the clubs’ new youth setups in theMiddle East.[6]

Idrees captained thePakistan Youth team at the1973 AFC Youth Championship.[7] In 1973, he was then selected to play forPakistan for a tour to the far east where he scored againstChina on 10 June 1973, in a 4–7 defeat. The following year, Idrees scored againstTurkey to tie the game at 2–2 in the1974 RCD Cup.[8] The same year, he participated in the1974 Asian Games,[9] scoring a goal in a 1–5 defeat againstBurma.[10] Idrees then played at the1976 Quaid-e-Azam International Tournament representing thePakistan Greens.[11]
In 1996, Idrees was appointed as the head coach of thePakistan national football team for the1996 AFC Asian Cup qualification.[1] The next year, he coached the team for theFIFA World Cup qualifiers.[12] Under his supervision in the1997 SAFF Gold Cup, Pakistan went on to achieve a third-place finish in the tournament. He last served as coach at the1999 SAFF Gold Cup.[13][14]

Inside-left Idrees, the most outstanding performer of the PIA, scored both the goals: first three minutes before the breather and the second in the 24th minute of the second half. This led to the application of the penalty kicks rule to decide the issue and the PIA defeated the PAF by converting four of the five kicks to three of the losing PAF.
