Mohammad Bashir (Urdu:محمد بشیر) (10 March 1935, in Lahore – 24 June 2001, in Lahore)[a] was awrestler fromPakistan. His bronze medal in freestyle wrestling in the welterweight class (73 kg) at the1960 Summer Olympics inRome was Pakistan's first individual Olympic Games medal.[2][1] Bashir is the only Pakistani wrestler to become an Olympic medalist.[2]
Bashir was a three-time gold medalist at theCommonwealth Games. He also won four medals in theAsian Games, including a gold at1966 Bangkok, two silver medals at1962 Jakarta, one infreestyle and the other inGreco-Roman style, in addition to a bronze medal in1958 Tokyo.
HisCommonwealth Games gold medals were earned at the1958 Cardiff,1962 Perth and1966 Kingston Games.[2]
At the1964 Summer Olympics inTokyo, Mohammad Bashir competed in the lightweight class (70 kg) but only went up to the third round.[1]
