Mrinal Miri (born 1 August 1940) is an Indianphilosopher andeducationalist.

Early life

He was awarded aBA in Philosophy from theUniversity of Cambridge in 1966 and gained his doctorate in 1970.

Career

From 1970 to 1974 he was a Lecturer in Philosophy atSt. Stephen's College under theUniversity of Delhi, before moving toNorth Eastern Hill University. Mrinal also served as the Director of theIndian Institute of Advanced Study,Shimla, from 1993 to 1999. He was nominated as a member of Rajya Sabha on 21 March 2012.

He has been awarded aPadma Bhushan for his contribution in the field of education and literature.[1] He was a member of theNational Advisory Council established by theManmohan Singh UPA I government. He is a member of the council set up for the implementation of RTE act also called as NAC.[2]

He is married toSujata Miri, a fellow philosopher.
