TheMountbatten Single Member Constituency[a] is asingle member constituency (SMC) located in the central–southeastern part ofSingapore. It is managed by Marine Parade–Braddell Heights Town Council (MPBHTC). The current Member of Parliament for the constituency isGho Sze Kee from the governingPeople's Action Party (PAP).
Mountbatten Constituency was established in 1957; it was first contested at the1959 general election and won bySeow Peck Leng from theSingapore People's Alliance (SPA). It was one of the few constituencies not won by the PAP, which secured 43 out of 51 seats in that general election. The PAP gained control of the constituency in the1963 general election through the election of Ng Yeow Chong. He served as the Member of Parliament until his retirement at the1980 general election, after which he was succeeded by Eugene Yap.
At the1988 general election, with the introduction ofGroup Representation Constituencies (GRCs), the constituency was renamedMountbatten Single Member Constituency in line with the new designation for constituencies with a single MP.[2]
Yap represented Mountbatten until the constituency was abolished in the1997 general election and merged intoMarine Parade GRC as a division.[3]
Prior to the2011 general election, Mountbatten SMC was reformed from the division of the same name inMarine Parade GRC.[4]Lim Biow Chuan, the incumbent MP for the division, contested the SMC, defeatingJeanette Chong-Aruldoss from theNational Solidarity Party (NSP) with 58.62% of the vote.[4][5]
For the2015 general election, Chong-Aruldoss switched to theSingapore People's Party (SPP);[6][4] Lim defeated her in a rematch with an improved 71.86% of the vote.[5][7]
For the 2020 general election, Lim stood for reelection in Mountbatten SMC; he defeatedPeoples Voice (PV) newcomer Sivakumaran Chellappa with an improved 73.82% of the vote despite a national swing against the PAP.[8][9][10]
Prior to the2025 general election, a polling district was moved from Mountbatten SMC to the newly createdMarine Parade–Braddell Heights GRC.[11] It was announced at the same election that Lim would retire from politics; Gho, a political newcomer, replaced him as the PAP candidate for the SMC.[12][13] She defeated independent candidate and Bitcoin investor Jeremy Tan with 63.82% of the vote, a negative swing of 10% from 2020.[14][15]
