Mount Gunnison is aprominentmountainsummit in theWest Elk Mountains range of theRocky Mountains ofNorth America. The 12,725-foot (3,879 m) peak is located in theWest Elk Wilderness ofGunnison National Forest, 22.2 miles (35.7 km) west by south (bearing 260°) of theTown of Crested Butte inGunnison County,Colorado,United States.[2][3][4][1] The mountain is named in honor ofJohn Williams Gunnison who explored the area.
