Morena is a town and a district in theIndianstate of northernMadhya Pradesh. The place gets its name frommor (meaning peacock) andraina, which means a place wherepeacocks are found in abundance; Morena is home to the largest number of peacocks in India.[citation needed]
Morena is situated on the border of three states: Madhya Pradesh, Rajsthan, and Uttar Pradesh. It is governed by a municipal corporation. It is also the administrative headquarters of theChambal division. It is located 27 kilometres (17 mi) fromDholpur, 39 kilometres (24 mi) fromGwalior, 82 kilometres (51 mi) fromAgra and 100 kilometres (62 mi) fromBhind.
Morena is famous forNational Chambal Sanctuary which is home toGharials, which extends uptoEtawah. Famous sweet "Gajak" trails its origin to Morena which is made from jaggary.

As of the2011 Census of India, Morena had a population of 288,303.[3] 13.2% of the population is under six years old.[3] Literacy was 80.28%; male literacy was 89.08% and female literacy was 70.22%.[3]
