Morchella kakiicolor is aspecies offungus in the familyMorchellaceae (Ascomycota). It was originally proposed as aform ofMorchella quercus-ilicis in a 2012 study by Philippe Clowez,[1] but was later re-combined as an autonomous species by Loizides and colleagues, based onmolecular phylogenetic data. In the same study,M. quercus-ilicis f.quercus-ilicis was shown by the authors to be a latersynonym of the old taxonMorchella tridentina, and notphylogenetically related toM. kakiicolor.[2]
Morchella kakiicolor is phylogenetically andmorphologically very close to the widespreadMediterranean speciesMorchella dunalii. So far, this apparently raremorel is only known fromSpain and theCanary Islands.[3]
