Arch Alfred Moore Capito (born August 30, 1982) is an American attorney and politician who served in theWest Virginia House of Delegates from 2016 to 2023.[1][2] A member of theRepublican Party, he was a candidate forgovernor of West Virginia in the state's2024 gubernatorial election but was defeated byPatrick Morrisey.[3] He resigned from the West Virginia House in December 2023 to focus on his campaign.[4]
Capito earned a Bachelor of Arts fromDuke University and aJuris Doctor from theWashington and Lee University School of Law.[5]
Capito is aPresbyterian and is married to commentator and hostLiberty Capito (née Vittert), with whom he lives inCharleston, West Virginia.[6][7] He was previously married to Katie Brings Capito, with whom he had two children.[1][8][9][7] Their divorce was finalized on January 20, 2021.[10]
Moore is the son of U.S. SenatorShelley Moore Capito,[1] the grandson of former West Virginia GovernorArch A. Moore Jr. andShelley Riley Moore, and the cousin ofRiley Moore.[11]
