Montigny-lès-Metz (French pronunciation:[mɔ̃tiɲimɛs], literallyMontignynearMetz;German:Monteningen, (1940–1944)Montenich) is acommune in theMoselledepartment inGrand Est in north-easternFrance.

It is the largestsuburb of the city ofMetz, and is adjacent to it on the west. From 1871 (Franco-German War) to 1919 (Treaty of Versailles), it was officially a part of the GermanImperial Territory of Alsace-Lorraine.
