Monte Penoso is a mountain on the island ofMaio,Cape Verde. At 436 m elevation, it is the island highest point.[1] It is situated in the eastern part of the island, 3 km southwest ofPedro Vaz and 13 km northeast of the island capitalPorto Inglês. The mountain is ofvolcanic origin. It is part of the protected landscapeMonte Penoso and Monte Branco, which covers 11.17 km2 (4.31 sq mi).[2][3]
