Mont Mégantic (French:[mɔ̃megɑ̃tik];Abenaki:Namesokanjik[3]) is amonadnock located inQuébec,Canada, about 15 km (9.3 mi) north of theborder between Québec and theU.S. states ofMaine andNew Hampshire. Mégantic is on the border of theregional county municipalities ofLe Granit andLe Haut-Saint-François. Its summit is the highest point of the latter. Many geologists believe that Mont Mégantic is a member of theMonteregian Hills formed by theNew England hotspot, as it has the same mechanism and depth ofintrusion.[4]

Mont Mégantic stands within thewatershed of theSaint Lawrence River, which drains into theGulf of Saint Lawrence. The east side of Mégantic drains into Rivière Victoria, thence intoLake Mégantic, theChaudière River, and the St. Lawrence. The rest of Mégantic drains into Rivière Au Saumon (Salmon River), thence into theSaint-François River, and the St. Lawrence.
