Moisés Matias de Andrade (January 10, 1948 – August 26, 2008), usually known simply asMoisés, was a professionalfootballer who played for severalCampeonato Brasileiro Série A clubs.
Moisés was born inResende, Rio de Janeiro state,[2] on January 10, 1948,[3] and started his career playing forBonsucesso, then he moved toFlamengo in 1968, and returned in the same year to Bonsucesso.[4] He played forBotafogo between 1969 and the beginning of 1971, participating in the 1968 Taça Brasil title, this edition of the championship that continued throughout 1969,[5] and played from 1971 to 1976 forVasco, where he won theCampeonato Brasileiro Série A in1974.[6] He then moved toCorinthians, helping the club win theCampeonato Paulista in 1977, bringing to an end the club's 23 years without winning the state championship.[6] He played 122 games for Corinthians.[7] Moisés briefly played forParis Saint-Germain of France, before returning to Brazil to play again forFlamengo[8] and was part of the 1978 Rio champion squad.[9] In 1979, he played forFluminense and in the same year he had a quick stint atPortuguesa de Desportos, then he moved toBangu in the following year, retiring in 1983.[4]
Moisés played one game for theBrazilian team, against theSoviet Union, on June 21, 1973, atLuzhniki Stadium, Moscow.[10][11]
After retiring, Moisés started a managerial career.[8] He was Bangu's head coach when the club finished as the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A runner-up in1985,[8] as well as that year'sCampeonato Carioca runner-up.[12] Besides managing Bangu, he was also manager of several other clubs, such asSanta Cruz,Ceará,Atlético Mineiro,América andBelenenses, of Portugal.[8] In 2008, he worked asCabofriense's management coordinator.[2]
Moisés died on August 26, 2008, inRio de Janeiro,[13] of lung cancer.[3] He was buried atCemitério São João Batista, inBotafogo neighborhood, Rio de Janeiro.[3]
