Modra (Ancient Greek:τὰ Μόδρα) was a town ofancient Bithynia. According toStrabo, the town was situated inPhrygia Epictetus, at the sources of the river Gallus.[1] This river flows down from the northern slope of theBithynian Olympus, forming the boundary betweenPhrygia and Bithynia, Strabo must be mistaken, and Modra probably belonged to the southwest of Bithynia. It became the seat of a bishop; no longer a residential see, it remains atitular see of theRoman Catholic Church.[2] The district about Modra was calledModrene.[3]
Its site is located nearMudurnu inAsiatic Turkey.[4][5]
