The design was built byMobjack Manufacturing inGloucester, Virginia andNewport Boats inNewport, California,United States, among other builders. Production started in 1956 and ended in 2003 with 537 boats completed, but it is now out of production.[1][3][4]
The Mobjack is a recreationalsailing dinghy, built predominantly offiberglass, with wood trim. It has afractionalsloop rig, aplumb stem andtransom, a transom-hungrudder controlled by atiller and a foldingcenterboard. It displaces 450 lb (204 kg).[1]
The boat has a draft of 4.00 ft (1.22 m) with the centerboard extended and 9 in (23 cm) with it retracted, allowingbeaching or ground transportation on atrailer.[1]
For sailing the design may be equipped with aspinnaker of 240 sq ft (22 m2). A singletrapeze is normally used by the crew.[1]
The boat is supported by an active class club that organizes racing events, theInternational Mobjack Association.[1][5]
