AMobile Web Server issoftware designed for modern-daysmartphones to host personalweb servers through the use ofopen sourced software.
Nokia is one of the fewcellphone companies that broughtApache HTTP Server to their line ofNokiacellphones, runningSymbian OSS60 mobile software platform. The S60 Mobile Web Server enables connectivity forHTTP traffic to a mobile device from theInternet.
The MobileWeb Server components include agateway application that runs on acomputer withInternet access and a connector application, that runs on the remote mobile device. The gateway and the connector applications with a validDNS configuration can provide a mobile device with a global web address (URL). However, as of January 2010, theweb server project has been discontinued by Nokia.[2]
The MobileWeb Server application allows mobile devices a means for hosting personal web applications, including, web pages andserver side control. The most commonly usedHTTP servers andservlet containers currently available areJetty,Tomcat,Glassfish andResin.
