MawlānāMoavia Azam Tariq (Urdu:معاویہ اعظم طارق; born 28 August 1983) is a PakistaniIslamic scholar andfar-right politician who was a member of theProvincial Assembly of the Punjab from August 2018 till January 2023.[2][1]

He is a son ofSipah-e-Sahaba chiefMaulana Azam Tariq, who was also a member of theNational Assembly of Pakistan.[3] He is also a senior leader of theAhle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ).[4]

Early life

He was born on 28 August 1983 inChichawatni and in 2006, he obtained the degree ofMaster of Arts inIslamic Studies fromZakariyya International Islamic University inSouth Africa.[5]

Political career

He was elected to theProvincial Assembly of the Punjab as a candidate of Pakistan Rah-e-Haq Party from ConstituencyPP-127 (Jhang-III) in the2018 Punjab provincial election.[6]

He received 65,252 votes and defeated an independent candidate, Sheikh Sheraz Akram.[7] Following his election, he joinedPakistan Rah-e-Haq.[8]Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had previously offered him to join the party.[9]
