Mixornis is agenus ofpasserine birds in the Old World babbler familyTimaliidae.
These species were formerly placed in the genusMacronus. Amolecular phylogenetic study published in 2012 found thatMacronus was notmonophyletic. To create monophyletic generaMacronus was split and some species moved to the resurrected genusMixornis.[2][3]Mixornis had been introduced in 1842 by the English zoologistEdward Blyth to accommodate the taxonTimalia chloris. This is ajunior synonym ofMacronous gularis rubicapillus which had been described in 1833 bySamuel Tickell. It is now one of thesubspecies of thepin-striped tit-babbler (Mixornis gularis rubicapilla).[2][4][5] The genus name combines theAncient Greekmixis meaning "mixed" or "mingling" withornis meaning "bird".[6]
