TheApostolic Administration of Uzbekistan is aRoman Catholic (Latin Church)Apostolic Administration (pre-diocesan jurisdiction; originally an Independent Mission) for the Catholics ofUzbekistan (West Turkistan,Central Asia).

It is exempt, i.e. directly subject to the Holy See (not part of anyecclesiastical province) and entitled to atitular bishop.

Its episcopal see is theCathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in the national capitalTashkent.

History

On September 29, 1997, the Holy See established theMissionsui iuris of Uzbekistan on territory split off from the thenApostolic Administration of Kazakhstan (shortly after promoted to Diocese of Karaganda, aftermissiones sui iuris were also split off forTajikistan,Turkmenistan andKyrgyzstan, all in 1997).

On 1 April 2005, the independent mission was promoted asApostolic Administration.
