Misha Osherovich is an American actor, filmmaker, and activist, known for her role as Josh Detmer in the filmFreaky.
Osherovich was born inMaryland, U.S., toRussian Jewish immigrant parents and raised in theWashington, D.C., area.[1][2]
They attendedIsland View, a youth residential treatment center inDavis County, Utah, as a teenager,[3] an experience that they have described as abusive and asconversion therapy.[4][5][6][7]
Osherovich graduated with aBachelor of Fine Arts in Acting fromMontclair State University.[8]
Osherovich made their New York stage debut in theoff-Broadway production ofA Clockwork Orange atNew World Stages.[9]
Their television and film credits include roles in the 2019 filmThe Goldfinch[10] as well as theAMC seriesNOS4A2.[11] They then co-starred in the horror comedy-filmFreaky, released on November 13, 2020.[11][12] Osherovich wrote and co-produced the short filmE.very D.ay.[13] The film addresses Osherovich's struggle witheating disorders as well as covering the topics of mental health and body image.[14]
As of 2022, Osherovich has a troubled-teen industry drama series in the works with Skylar Landsee and television production companyFremantle.[15] It is based on Osherovich's experiences and survival story in tough-love programs.[15]
Osherovich is an advocate formental healthcare access for thequeer community. Partnering with NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association),[14] Osherovich produced the organization's first social media Pride campaign to advocate for awareness aboutdisordered eating andbody image struggles within the LGBTQIA+ community.
Osherovich attended a rally held byParis Hilton in protest of alleged abuse atProvo Canyon School and programs for troubled teens, and spoke out about their own experience with abuse at a Utah troubled teen facility.[16]
Osherovich opened up more inThem about their experience in the troubled teen industry and why they don't want any other queer person to go through the same experience.[4] Osherovich shared their experience at two facilities, one in Utah and one in Connecticut, and what they experienced in regards to conversion therapy, explaining that queerness and expressions of queerness were considered rebellion for which students would get punished or go to isolation.[4]
Osherovich isnon-binary and usesthey/she[17] pronouns.[18]
