Mirko Bazić (2 November 1938 – 10 March 2021)[1] was a Croatianfootballer and laterfootball manager.
Bazić played in theYugoslav Second League in 1958 withNK Metalac Zagreb.[2] In 1962, he played withNK Nehaj, and later withFK Kozara Gradiška.[3]
In 1974, he was named the head coach forGNK Dinamo Zagreb in theYugoslav First League.[4] In 1976, he led Zagreb to the1975–76 Yugoslav Cup final, but lost toHajduk Split.[5] In 1982, he managedNK Zagreb in theYugoslav Second League, and later withNK Bjelovar.[6] In 1987, he went abroad to coach in Canada'sNational Soccer League withWindsor Wheels.[7] In his debut season with Windsor he assisted in securing the regular season title.[8] He also led the team in winning the NSL Canadian Championship.[9] He re-signed with Windsor for the1988 season.[10]
In 1989, he was named the head coach forNorth York Rockets in theCanadian Soccer League.[11] He was dismissed on 21 August 1989.[12] In 1993, he was appointed the head coach forMelbourne Croatia in theNational Soccer League.[13] In his debut season with Melbourne he was named the league's coach of the year.[14] Throughout his tenure with Melbourne he led the club in securing the 1994–95 national championship.[15] In 2002, he returned to manage Melbourne Croatia.[16]
