Miranda Rachelle Maverick[7] (born July 1, 1997) is an Americanmixed martial artist who competes in the women'sFlyweight division of theUltimate Fighting Championship (UFC). She competed inFlyweight division of theInvicta Fighting Championships. As of September 9, 2025, she is #10 in theUFC women's flyweight rankings.[8]
Maverick was born inTunas, Missouri.[6] She grew up working on her family farm moving around many states in theMidwest andSouthern United States, earning her the strength that she is known for within the martial arts community.[6] She started grappling when she was sixteen after encouragement by her father while watchingRonda Rousey fight on the television.[6] She also joined her high school wrestling team atBuffalo High School inBuffalo, Missouri her senior year and competed on the men's varsity team until discovering that she would not be going to college for wrestling. She then stopped to focus on wrestling, instead turning her sights on MMA soon after she graduated high school.[3]
Despite concentrating in mixed martial arts, Maverick graduated with honors fromDrury University, majoring in psychology and sociology in 2018.[6] Maverick then relocated to Norfolk, VA to pursue a PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Old Dominion University.[6]
Maverick started her amateur career in 2015, fighting under Kansas City Fighting Alliance, ShoFight, and The Blue Corner promotions. She amassed a record of 7–1, winning the Blue Corner and Shofight flyweight championships all while 18 years old, being listed as the number one amateur woman in her region on Tapology at the time she went pro. After her final amateur win, she was soon contacted by President Shannon Knapp ofInvicta Fighting Championships.[9]
Maverick made her promotional debut on November 18, 2016, atInvicta FC 20: Evinger vs. Kunitskaya against Samantha Diaz.[10] Samantha Diaz cut off her hair the day of weight-ins to make weight and Maverick came in over 2 pounds above the strawweight limit.[11] Maverick won the fight via rear naked choke in round one.[12]
Her next pro fight was on March 25, 2017, atInvicta FC 22: Evinger vs. Kunitskaya II facing Kalyn Schwartz.[13] On the weight-in Maverick missed weight by 4.5 Ibs over the upper limit of 116 Ibs.[14] She won the fight via submission on round one.[15]
On July 15, 2017, Maverick faced Gabby Romero atInvicta FC 24: Dudieva vs. Borella.[16][17] She won the fight via unanimous decision.[18]
Her next fight came on July 21, 2018, facingBrogan Walker-Sanchez atInvicta FC 30. She lost the fight via unanimous decision.[19]
Maverick facedVictoria Leonardo on September 1, 2018, atInvicta FC 31: Jandiroba vs. Morandin.[20] She defeated Leonardo via a submission.[21]
At Invicta 34 in February 2019, Maverick lost a unanimous decision toDeAnna Bennett.
In September, Maverick entered the Invicta Phoenix Series flyweight tournament with a chance to reestablish herself in the flyweight division. In the first round of the tournament, consisting of one 5-minute round, she defeated Victoria Leonardo via striking and clinch in a rematch via unanimous decision. Her second round match (also one 5-minute round) ended with Maverick submitting Shanna Young via rear naked choke. Maverick won the tournament by defeating DeAnna Bennett in a rematch by third round neck crank submission in the finals.[22]
Maverick defeatedPearl Gonzalez atInvicta FC 39 on February 7, 2020.[23]
Maverick was expected to make her promotional debut againstMara Romero Borella on June 27, 2020, atUFC on ESPN: Poirier vs. Hooker.[24] However, Maverick was forced to pull out due to injury.[25]
Maverick facedLiana Jojua on October 24, 2020, atUFC 254.[26] She won the fight via TKO due to a doctor stoppage between rounds one and two.[27]
Maverick was expected to faceGillian Robertson atUFC 258 on February 13, 2021.[28] However, hours before the fight, Robertson had a non-COVID related illness and the bout was cancelled.[29] The pair was eventually rescheduled toUFC 260 on March 27, 2021.[30] Maverick won the fight via unanimous decision.[31]
Maverick facedMaycee Barber on July 24, 2021, atUFC on ESPN: Sandhagen vs. Dillashaw.[32] She lost the fight via controversial split decision.[33] 22 out of 22 media outlets scored the bout as a win for Maverick.[34]
Maverick stepped in for an injuredMaycee Barber to faceErin Blanchfield on December 11, 2021, atUFC 269.[35] She lost the fight by unanimous decision.[36]
Replacing Mandy Böhm, Maverick facedSabina Mazo on March 12, 2022, atUFC Fight Night 203.[37] Maverick won the fight via rear-naked choke in round two.[38]
Maverick was scheduled to faceShanna Young on August 20, 2022, atUFC 278.[39] However, the bout was cancelled when Young was hospitalized due to weight cutting issues.[40] The pair was rescheduled atUFC Fight Night 214.[41] She won the fight via unanimous decision.[42]
Maverick facedJasmine Jasudavicius on June 10, 2023, atUFC 289.[43] In an upset, she lost the bout via unanimous decision.[44]
Maverick facedPriscila Cachoeira atUFC 291 on July 29, 2023, winning the bout via an armbar submission in the third round.[45]
Maverick facedAndrea Lee on February 17, 2024, atUFC 298.[46] She won the bout by unanimous decision.[47]
Maverick was scheduled to faceTracy Cortez on July 20, 2024, atUFC on ESPN 60.[48] However, Cortez was pulled from the event to serve as a replacement fighter at theUFC on ESPN 59 event and was replaced by Dione Barbosa.[49][50] She won the fight by unanimous decision.[51]
Maverick was re-scheduled to faceTracy Cortez on December 14, 2024 atUFC on ESPN 63.[52] However, Cortez was forced to withdraw due to health issues that required her to have surgery and was replaced by formerLFA Women's Flyweight Champion Jamey-Lyn Horth.[53][54] Maverick won the fight by unanimous decision.[55]
Maverick faced former two-timeUFC Women's Strawweight ChampionRose Namajunas on June 14, 2025 atUFC on ESPN 69.[56] She lost the fight by unanimous decision.[57]
Maverick won a silver medal in the brown belt lightweight division of theIBJJF No-Gi World Championship 2023.[58]
