Benjamin de Almeida Sodré, commonly known asBenjamin Sodré or asMimi Sodré (April 10, 1892[1] – February 1, 1982[2]) was a Brazilian scout andfootballstriker, who played for theBrazil national team.[2]
Born inBelém,[1] Mimi Sodré started his career in 1908, defendingBotafogo, leaving the club in 1916.[2] He returned to play for Botafogo in 1922.[2]
He played two games for theBrazil national team in 1916. His first game for the national team, on July 12, was againstUruguay. Playing against that country again on July 18, he scored a goal.[3]
Mimi Sodré was president of Botafogo Football Club in 1941.[4] Botafogo Football Club was one of the two clubs that fused to form Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas in 1942.[4]
Mimi Sodré was a student at the Naval Academy when after reading a book byBaden Powell namedScouting for Boys, he became interested inScouting.[1] Sodré, under the pen name Velho Lobo, published a Scouting book named Guia do Escoteiro.[1] During his life he was a member of theUnião dos Escoteiros do Brasil, led several Scouting groups, and taught several courses around his country.[1]
