Miles Xavier Johns[5] (born March 30, 1994) is an Americanmixed martial artist who competes in theBantamweight division of theUltimate Fighting Championship. A professional competitor since 2014, he has also formerly competed forLegacy Fighting Alliance where he was theLFA Bantamweight Champion.

Background

Miles was born and raised inNewton, Kansas along with two brothers and an older sister.[6] One of the brothers – Elijah – is also an aspiring professional mixed martial artist.[7] Miles started wrestling in the third grade, eventually winning the 5A Kansas state championship. Miles graduated fromNewton High School, continuing toNewman University on a wrestling scholarship but became injured.[8] By the time he was healed up from the injury, the season was over and Johns decided to drop out of college and compete in mixed martial arts.[9]

Not long after dropping out of the college, a friend told him about an amateur fighting event coming up and Johns took a fight on the spot on three weeks’ notice.[10]

Starting his professional career in 2014, Johns compiled a 8–0 record fight mostly forLegacy Fighting Alliance where he won theLFA Bantamweight Championship. After accomplishing this feat, he was invited ontoDana White's Contender Series 18, where he won a decision victory against Richie Santiago, in the process gaining a UFC contract.[11]

Ultimate Fighting Championship

In his UFC debut, Johns facedCole Smith on September 14, 2019 atUFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs. Gaethje. He won a close fight by split decision.[12]

On February 8, 2020, Johns facedMario Bautista atUFC 247.[13] He lost the fight via technical knockout in round two.[14]

Johns faced Kevin Natividad on October 31, 2020 atUFC Fight Night: Hall vs. Silva.[15] He won the fight via knockout in round three by hocking and holding his opponent's glove to keep him in range.[16] This win earned himPerformance Fight of the Night award.[17]

Johns was scheduled to faceAnderson dos Santos on July 17, 2021 atUFC on ESPN 26.[18] However, the bout was removed hours before the show due to COVID-19 protocol issues stemming from Dos Santos' camp.[19] The bout was rescheduled and eventually took place atUFC 265 on August 7, 2021.[20] Johns won the fight via knockout in round three.[21] This fight earned him thePerformance of the Night award.[22]

As the first bout of his four-fight contract, Johns facedJohn Castañeda on February 5, 2022 atUFC Fight Night 200.[23][24] He lost the bout via third round technical submission.[25]

On April 19, it was reported that Miles Johns tested positive foradderall in a urine test collected at the day ofUFC Fight Night 200. As a result, he was received a six-month suspension, along with a $3,450 fine, which amounts to 15 percent of his fight purse.[26]

Johns facedVince Morales on November 19, 2022, atUFC Fight Night 215; replacing José Johnson.[27] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[28]

Johns was then scheduled to faceRaoni Barcelos on June 17, 2023, atUFC on ESPN 47.[29] However, during the fight week Johns withdrew from the bout citing an injury, leading the bout to be scrapped.[30]

Johns faced Dan Argueta on September 23, 2023, atUFC Fight Night 228.[31] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[32] On November 15, 2023, Johns was suspended byNevada Athletic Commission for a failed drug test after testing positive for the anabolic steroidturinabol.[33] He was fined $2,300 and $157.04 in prosecution fees, with the bout being overturned to a no contest. He is suspended for four and the half months and will be eligible to return on February 6, 2024.[33]

Johns facedCody Gibson, replacing injuredDavey Grant, on March 23, 2024, atUFC on ESPN 53.[34] He won the bout by unanimous decision.[35]

Johns facedDouglas Silva de Andrade on June 15, 2024, atUFC on ESPN 58.[36] He won the fight by unanimous decision.[37]

Johns was scheduled to faceCody Garbrandt on October 12, 2024 atUFC Fight Night 247.[38] However, the bout was moved toUFC Fight Night 247 on November 9, 2024, for unknown reasons.[39] In turn, Garbrandt withdrew from the bout due to undisclosed reasons and the bout was scrapped.[40]

Johns faced Felipe Lima in a featherweight bout on December 14, 2024 atUFC on ESPN 63.[41] He lost the fight by unanimous decision.[42]

Personal life

Johns and his wife Hannah have three sons.[43]

Johns graduated fromBrookhaven College nursing program in December 2018 and is a registered nurse.[9]
