Mikiko Mochi Donuts is a small chain ofdoughnut shops in thePortland metropolitan area, in theU.S. state ofOregon.[1] Emily Mikiko Strocher and Alex McGillivray started the business as apop-up restaurant in 2020, before launching a residency innorthwest Portland later in the year, then opening abrick and mortar shop in thenortheast Portland part of theKerns neighborhood in 2022. In 2024, a second location opened inBeaverton. The business has announced plans to open a location in Bethany Village, calledMikiko Jr., in 2025. Mikiko specializes inmochi donuts and has garnered a positive reception.

Mikiko Mochi Donuts operatesdoughnut shops in thePortland metropolitan area. The flagship shop is in thenortheast Portland part of theKerns neighborhood and the business has also operated inBeaverton and Bethany Village.[2]

Mikiko specializes indairy- andgluten-freemochi donuts.[3] One variety isglazed with ube and dusted withli hing mui.[4] Other varieties include Black Sesame & J, Horchata Pudding, Kat Dog, Plum Wine, the P.O.G. with guava curd, and Yuzu Funfetti.[5] Mikiko has also offered doughnuts withmatcha, pandan,[6] passionfruit curd, andcalamansi lemonadeicing, as well as orange-colored Thai tea pastries.[3]

History

Emily Mikiko Strocher and Alex McGillivray started Mikiko as apop-up restaurant. In February 2020, the couple sold 72 donuts in 30 minutes at aWeWork space.[7] In September, Mikiko started a residency at the West space in northwest Portland.[8] In 2021, the couple announced plans to open abrick and mortar shop in northeast Portland.[9][10] The shop opened in 2022.[11][12]

A second location opened in Beaverton in 2024. As of 2025, there are plans to close the Beaverton location and open another location in Bethany Village. The Bethany Village location is known as Mikiko Jr.[2]

Reception

In 2023, Zoe Baillargeon included Mikiko inBon Appétit's list of Portland's eight best doughnut shops,[12] and the business was included inYelp's annual guide of the nation's top 100 doughnut shops.[13][14] Rebecca Roland and Nick Townsend included the business inEater Portland's 2024 list of the city's "most delicious" doughnuts.[3] Sararosa Davies also included Mikiko in the website's 2025 overview of the city's best gluten-free restaurants and bakeries.[15]
