Mikhail Petrovich Zhirnov (Russian:Михаил Петрович Жирнов, born 8 November 1994) is a Russian competitiveice dancer. With former partnerDaria Morozova, he is the 2014JGP Slovenia champion.
Mikhail Petrovich Zhirnov was born 8 November 1994 inZheleznodorozhny, Moscow Oblast.[1]
Zhirnov started skating in 1999.[2]
Zhirnov began competing withDaria Morozova in the2008–09 season.[3] The two were coached bySvetlana Liapina before they switched toAlexander Svinin andIrina Zhuk.[2]
Representing Russia, Morozova/Zhirnov made their junior international debut in November 2010 at theNRW Trophy. In September 2011, they placed fifth at their firstISU Junior Grand Prix (JGP) assignment, inRiga, Latvia. In the2012–13 JGP season, they ranked fourth inLake Placid, New York, before winning bronze inChemnitz, Germany. They finished fourth at the2013 Russian Junior Championships.
Morozova/Zhirnov took bronze at both of their2013–14 JGP events, inMinsk, Belarus andTallinn, Estonia, and came in sixth at the2014 Russian Junior Championships.
Their first assignment of the2014–15 JGP series took place inLjubljana, Slovenia. Placing first in the short dance and third in the free dance, they won the gold medal by a margin of 0.24 over Canada'sBrianna Delmaestro /Timothy Lum.[4] They placed fourth at the JGP inZagreb, Croatia and qualified for theISU Junior Grand Prix Final, where they finished sixth. After withdrawing from the2015 Russian Junior Championships, Morozova/Zhirnov ended their partnership.
In the2015–16 season, Zhirnov began competing with Varvara Oglobina forAzerbaijan.[5]
