Mike Johnson is an Americanstop motion animator.
Johnson has worked on films such asJames and the Giant Peach andThe Nightmare Before Christmas, short films such as an animation of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" (used byPrimus andRednex for promotional videos for their covers of the song), and TV programmes such asThe PJs. He is best known for directingCorpse Bride withTim Burton; they were jointly nominated for the 2005Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. He directedPing Pong Rabbit, from a script byPeter Barsocchini.[1] The film was released byMili Pictures Worldwide[2][3] in 2017 in Turkey and 2019 in the United States. Johnson was also attached to directOz Wars, a CGI/Stop-motion hybrid film.[4]
In 1996, he set up his own animation company, Fat Cactus Films. Johnson attended theRhode Island School of Design, where he majored in Film/Animation/Video. He currently teaches stop-motion at theCalifornia Institute of the Arts andUniversity of California Los Angeles.
