Michael Hennessey Calitri (born March 14, 1978) is an American professionalbaseballcoach. He is thebench coach for thePhiladelphia Phillies ofMajor League Baseball.
Calitri is fromCanton, Massachusetts. He graduated fromXaverian Brothers High School,[1] then attendedClemson University, where he playedcollege baseball for theClemson Tigers. He signed with theCincinnati Reds as afree agent, and played for the Reds organization until 2003, when he was released by the Reds. Calitri signed with theBoston Red Sox,[2] and was released by Boston in 2004. He returned to Clemson to complete his degree and went into sales.[1]
Vanderbilt University hired Calitri as their director of baseball operations in 2005.[3] In 2009, theTampa Bay Rays hired Calitri to run their advance scouting program.[4] In 2013, he was hired to be a professional scout for theCleveland Indians.[5]
In 2018, thePhiladelphia Phillies hired Calitri as an advance scout.[1] Before the 2021 season, the Phillies promoted Calitri to the major league coaching staff as a quality assurance coach.[6] When the Phillies fired managerJoe Girardi in June 2022, they promotedbench coachRob Thomson to interim manager and promoted Calitri to bench coach.[7]
Calitri lives inTampa, Florida, with his wife and three children.[1]
