Brigitte Michael "Mickey" Sumner (born 19 January 1984) is an English actress best known for her film roles as Sophie Levee inFrances Ha (2012) and Farrah inThe Mend (2014) and her television roles as Katia onLow Winter Sun (2013) and Bess Till onSnowpiercer (2020). She also portrayedPatti Smith inCBGB (2013).
Sumner is the daughter of actressTrudie Styler and rock musicianSting.
Sumner was born at Portland Hospital in London, the oldest daughter of musicianSting (born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) and actressTrudie Styler.[1] Sumner is the older sister of musicianEliot Sumner and the younger half-sister of musicianJoe Sumner.
Sumner began her acting career in 2006 with roles in a series of short films. In 2011, she landed the role of Francesca on theShowtime seriesThe Borgias appearing in four episodes. Sumner garnered significant attention for her role as Sophie Levee, starring oppositeGreta Gerwig, in 2012'sFrances Ha.[2]
In 2013, Sumner portrayedPatti Smith inCBGB.[3] She also made her official off-Broadway debut oppositeCarol Kane in theAtlantic Theater Company'sThe Lying Lesson in April 2013.[4]
Sumner was featured as Katia on theAMC Network seriesLow Winter Sun. In 2013, Sumner acted in a series of films includingHalf the Perfect World,The Mend andAnesthesia.
Sumner starred in the independent filmThe Mend, alongsideJosh Lucas andStephen Plunkett. The film premiered at theSXSW Film Festival in March 2014.[5][6][7][8]
She became engaged to Chris Kantrowitz in June 2016, and they married in Tuscany in July 2017.[9] As of 2019 they have one son. As of 2022, they are formally separated.
In March 2025, Sumner announced her engagement to photographer/director, Carter B Smith, in a joint post on Instagram.[10]
