TheMichigan State Spartans track and field team is thetrack and field program that representsMichigan State University. The Spartans compete inNCAA Division I as a member of theBig Ten Conference. The team is based inEast Lansing, Michigan at theRalph Young Field.[2]
The program is coached byLisa Breznau.[3] The track and field program officially encompasses four teams because the NCAA considers men's and women's indoor track and field and outdoor track and field as separate sports.[4]
Sevatheda Fynes has won the most NCAA titles of any Spartan athlete, with three over the sprints in 1997.[5]
The Spartans have had 9 individualAIAW All-Americans finishing in the top six at theAIAW indoor oroutdoor championships.[6]
As of 2024[update], a total of 95 men and 27 women have achieved individual first-teamAll-American status at the Division Imen's outdoor,women's outdoor,men's indoor, orwomen's indoor national championships (using the modern criteria of top-8 placing regardless of athlete nationality).[7][8]
