Micheál Carrigy (born 1971/1972)[1] is an IrishFine Gael politician who has been aTeachta Dála (TD) for theLongford–Westmeath constituency since the2024 general election. He served as aSenator for theIndustrial and Commercial Panel from 2020 to 2024.[2][3]
Carrigy attendedSt Mel's College,Longford.[4] He worked as apostmaster inBallinalee.[5][1]
Carrigy was first elected toLongford County Council forGranard area at the2009 local elections.[6][7] He was electedCathaoirleach of Longford County Council in June 2019.[8]
Carrigy stood unsuccessfully inLongford–Westmeath at the2020 general election; he won 11.2% of first preference votes and finished sixth.[9]
At the2020 Seanad election, Carrigy was elected to the26th Seanad on theIndustrial and Commercial Panel.[10]
In 2024, Carrigy was elected as a TD for the expandedLongford–Westmeath constituency, with 11.5% of first preference votes.[11] He was subsequently elected as chair of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party.[12] He was also appointed Cathaoirleach of the Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage.[13]
Carrigy lives inBallinalee,County Longford, with his wife Una and their three children.[14]
