Michael Daly Hawkins (born February 12, 1945) is aSenior United States circuit judge of theUnited States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Born inAugusta,Maine, Hawkins received hisBachelor of Arts degree andJuris Doctor fromArizona State University andArizona State University College of Law in 1967 and 1970, respectively, and hisMaster of Laws from theUniversity of Virginia School of Law in 1998.[1][2]
Hawkins began his career in 1970 as a Special Courts Martial Military Judge in theUnited States Marine Corps. After leaving the Marine Corps in 1973, he was in private practice until 1976. From 1977 until 1980 he was theUnited States Attorney for Arizona. From 1980 until 1994 he was a partner in thePhoenix, Arizona law firm of Daughton Hawkins Brockelman Guinan & Patterson.[2] From 1985 through 1989 he as also a Special Prosecutor for theNavajo Nation.[2]
Hawkins was nominated by PresidentBill Clinton on July 13, 1994, to a seat on theUnited States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit vacated by JudgeThomas Tang.[2] He was confirmed by theUnited States Senate on September 14, 1994, and received commission on September 15, 1994.[2] He assumedsenior status on February 12, 2010.[3][2]
