Micaela Alvarez (born June 8, 1958) is aseniorUnited States district judge of theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
Alvarez was born inDonna, Texas. She received herBachelor of Science degree from theUniversity of Texas in 1980 and herJuris Doctor from theUniversity of Texas School of Law in 1989. She was in private practice inMcAllen, Texas, from 1989 to 1995, and from 1997 to 2004. She was a presiding judge of the 139th Judicial District Court from 1995 to 1996.[2]
On June 16, 2004, Alvarez was nominated by PresidentGeorge W. Bush to a seat on theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of Texas vacated byDavid Hittner. She was confirmed by theUnited States Senate on November 20, 2004, and received her commission on December 13, 2004. She assumedsenior status on June 8, 2023.[2] Alvarez left the court on September 30, 2025[3], though she still hears cases with theWestern District of Texas.[4].
Alvarez also served on thePresident's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.[citation needed]
