James Rencher (born May 14, 1983),[1][2][3] known professionally asMeyhem Lauren, is an American rapper fromQueens,New York.[4] He is a founding member of theSmart Crew collective.[5] He has collaborated with the likes ofDJ Muggs,The Alchemist, andHarry Fraud.[6] He stars inFuck, That's Delicious withAction Bronson, The Alchemist, andBig Body Bes.[3]

Career

In 2007, Meyhem Lauren released a collaborative album withJ-Love, titledAcknowledge Greatness.[7] In 2010, he released "Got the Fever", a tribute song to graffiti culture.[5] It was included onComplex's "25 Best Songs About Graffiti" list in 2012.[8] The music video for the song has received a million views onYouTube.[5]

Meyhem Lauren's debut solo album, titledSelf Induced Illness, was released in 2011.[7] In 2012, he releasedRespect the Fly Shit.[9] It was included onSpin's "40 Best Hip-Hop Albums of 2012" list.[10] In that year, he also releasedMandatory Brunch Meetings.[11] In 2014, he released a collaborative album withBuckwild, titledSilk Pyramids.[12] It was included onThe Village Voice's "10 Best New York City Rap Albums of 2014" list.[13] In 2016, he releasedPiatto D'oro.[14] In 2017, he released a collaborative album withDJ Muggs, titledGems from the Equinox.[15] In 2018, he releasedGlass, which was entirely produced byHarry Fraud.[16] In 2022, he released a collaborative album withDaringer, titledBlack Vladimir.[17]
