TheMeurthe (French pronunciation:[mœʁt]) is a river in north-easternFrance, right tributary to the riverMoselle. It is 161 km (100 mi) long.[1] Its source is in theVosges mountains, near theCol de la Schlucht in theVosges département, from where it flows in an overall north-westerly direction. Its name gave rise to the naming of the present FrenchdépartementMeurthe-et-Moselle and the former (before the change in theFranco-German border after theFranco-Prussian war of 1870)département Meurthe.
Channelled during its route throughNancy, the river flows into the Moselle atPompey on the northern edge of Nancy, a short distance down-stream from thePort ofFrouard.
