Menagh (Arabic:منق, also spelledManaq orManq) is a town nearAzaz 16 km North ofAleppo in northwesternAleppo Governorate of northernSyria.
Administratively part ofNahiya Azaz, Manaq had a population of 2,128 in the 2004 census.[1] Nearby localities includeAzaz to the north,Maraanaz to the northwest,Kaljibrin to the east andTell Rifaat to the south.
Menagh is located by theBaghdad Railway connectingAleppo with theTurkish city ofAdana, and by the strategichighway 214 toGaziantep. TheMenagh Military Airbase is situated immediately to the west of thevillage.
During theRoman Empire Menagh was aRoman era station of theRoman Province of Syria.[2] It was known as Minnica at this time.
TheSiege of Menagh Air Base took place here in 2013.The village was captured by theSyrian Democratic Forces on 9 February 2016. On 1 December 2024, Syrian opposition armed groups under theDawn of Freedom Operations Room announced that they had taken control of Menagh.[3]
