Meldal dialect orMeldal Norwegian is a dialect ofNorwegian used in the area of the oldMeldal Municipality (now part ofOrkland Municipality). It is a variety ofTrøndersk.

Vowels

  • /iː/ is a syllabic, palatalizeddental approximant[ð̩ʲ˕ː]. This is realization is also found in some dialects ofSwedish.[2][3]
  • Old Norse diphthongs⟨ei⟩ and⟨øy⟩ are realized as long monophthongs[] and[øː]. This is the case in a large part ofSør-Trøndelag in general.[3]
