Melanie Louise McLaughlin (born 3 September 1979)[2] is an Australian sport presenter for theSeven Network. McLaughlin previously worked forFox Sports where she hostedassociation football shows includingKick Off,Indian Super League andFox Sports FC, while also being a regular onFox Sports News.[3][4]

Career

McLaughlin started her media career with Radio 2 in 2005 before moving toSky News in Sydney, as a reporter and presenter.[5]

In 2007, she joinedFox Sports where she hosted multiplesoccer shows includingKick Off,Indian Super League andFox Sports FC. She was a regular onFox Sports News.[3][4]

In 2013, she joinedNetwork Ten to host the network's coverage of theBig Bash League. She also hostedTen's coverage of the2014 Winter Olympics,2014 Commonwealth Games andAustralian F1 Grand Prix. McLaughlin was also host of the short-livedThe Thursday Night Sport Show alongsideSam Mac andMark Howard, and a fill-in sports presenter onTen Eyewitness News Sydney.[6][7][1]

In January 2016, cricketerChris Gayle propositioned McLaughlin during a live interview during a Big Bash game. He was sanctioned with aA$10,000 fine for inappropriate conduct.[8][9][10][11]

In April 2016, McLaughlin moved to theSeven Network. She was appointed weeknight sport presenter onSeven News Sydney replacingJim Wilson. She hostedSeven's coverage of the2016 Summer Olympics,2018 Winter Olympics and the2018 Commonwealth Games, as well as the network's coverage of theAustralian Swimming Championships and2017 Rugby League World Cup.[12] She has also filled in as sports presenter onSunrise and onSeven Morning News.[13]

In 2018, she was appointed host ofSeven's Test Cricket and Big Bash League Coverage alongsideJames Brayshaw.

Personal life

McLaughlin was born in September 1979 in Sydney to an Anglo-Indian mother and an English father who had migrated to Australia in 1978.[5]

She was raised inQuakers Hill, New South Wales where she attended St Andrew's Primary School andSt John Paul II Catholic College.[14]

McLaughlin was married to Australian actor Luke Panic from 2012 to 2014.[15] She is currently in a relationship with British former footballerAshley Westwood. McLaughlin is an ambassador for the Lung Foundation Australia, having lost a sister to lung cancer.[5]
