McManus

McManus is anIrish surname. It is derived from theIrish Gaelic "Mac Mághnais",[1] in modern Irish "McMaghnuis" which means "Son of Magnus".[2] Its earlier origin is from theLatin "magnus", meaning "great". TheNormans used it to honourCharlemagne (742–814), as Carolus Magnus (Charles the Great).[3] Variant spellings of the name includeMacManus,Manus andMacManners.[1] The English form,Moyne, is also found inUlster.[2] InScotland it is a sept ofClan Colquhoun.[4]
