TheMcConnel Islands (66°29′S65°51′W / 66.483°S 65.850°W /-66.483; -65.850) are islands lying inDarbel Bay southeast of theKidd Islands, off the west coast ofGraham Land, Antarctica. They were photographed by theFalkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition, 1956–57, and were named by theUK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1960 forJames C. McConnel (1860–1890),[1] an English physicist who, along with Dudley Kidd, made pioneer experiments on the plastic deformation of ice, both single and polycrystals, 1881–90.[2]
