Maximiliano Abad (born 30 May 1977) is an ArgentineRadical Civic Union (UCR) politician who has served asNational Senator forBuenos Aires Province since 2023. He previously served as a member of theBuenos Aires Province Chamber of Deputies for theFifth Electoral Section from 2015 to 2023 and as a City Councillor inMar del Plata.
Abad was born on 30 May 1977 inRanchos, Buenos Aires. He grew up inSanta Clara del Mar, and later moved toMar del Plata.[1] He studied law at theNational University of Mar del Plata, and began his political activism atFranja Morada, the student wing of theRadical Civic Union (UCR). As a student activist in 2004 he was elected president of theArgentine University Federation (FUA).[2]
Abad first ran for City Councillor ofGeneral Pueyrredón Partido (Mar del Plata) in 2007, and was re-elected in 2011 as part of theUDESO (Union for Social Development) alliance. A close ally ofErnesto Sanz and a supporter of the alliance between the UCR andRepublican Proposal (which led to the creation of theCambiemos coalition), in 2015 he was elected to theBuenos Aires Province Chamber of Deputies for the Fifth Electoral Section, which includes General Pueyrredón and much of the Buenos Aires Atlantic Coast.[3] He was re-elected in2019.
In 2021 he was elected president of the Buenos Aires ProvinceRadical Civic Union committee.[4] In the2023 general election, Abad was elected to theArgentine Senate for Buenos Aires as the single minority seat, heading theJuntos por el Cambio list.
