Mauritius first participated at theOlympic Games in 1984, and has sent athletes to compete in everySummer Olympic Games since then. The nation has never participated in theWinter Olympic Games.Mauritius also supported theAmerican-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics inMoscow.
At the2008 Beijing Olympic Games,Bruno Julie securedMauritius' first Olympic medal by reaching thebantamweight boxing semifinals and earning the bronze medal.
TheNational Olympic Committee for Mauritius was founded in 1971 byRam Ruhee, who remained itsSecretary General until his death in 2008.[1] It was officially recognized by theInternational Olympic Committee in 1972.
