Matthew Charles Czuchry (/ˈzuːkri/; born May 20, 1977[1][2]) is an American actor known asLogan Huntzberger inGilmore Girls (2005–2007), Cary Agos onThe Good Wife (2009–2015) and Conrad Hawkins onThe Resident (2018–2023).
Czuchry was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, and grew up in Johnson City, Tennessee.[1][3] His father, Andrew Czuchry, is a professor atEast Tennessee State University, and his mother, Sandra, is a homemaker.[3] He is ofUkrainian descent on his father's side.[4] The youngest of four siblings, he has two older brothers and an older sister.[3]
He graduated fromScience Hill High School in 1995,[3] where he was Tennessee state prep tennis singles champion that year.[5][6] Czuchry attendedCollege of Charleston on a tennis scholarship, captained the men's tennis team, and was anNCAA ranked player in theSouthern Conference.[7][8] He won the Mr. College of Charleston pageant in 1998[3] and graduated with honors in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science.[3]
Czuchry took one theater class in college, and his professor encouraged him to change his major to drama.[3] It was during his first role onThe WB'sYoung Americans that he metKate Bosworth, whom he dated from 2000 to 2002.[9] He also had guest spots onFreaks and Geeks,7th Heaven,The Practice,Veronica Mars, andFriday Night Lights. After a recurring role on theCBS television dramaHack and starring in theUPN pilotJake 2.0, Czuchry received his breakthrough role asLogan Huntzberger on the television seriesGilmore Girls in 2004. His role was initially recurring during the series'fifth season before being upgraded to a series regular during thesixth and theseventh season.
From 2009 to 2016, Czuchry portrayed lawyer Cary Agos on the CBS dramaThe Good Wife.[10] He also reprised his role as Logan Huntzberger onNetflix's reunion miniseriesGilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (2016).[11]
Czuchry starred inFox's medical drama seriesThe Resident, which premiered on January 21, 2018.[12] He played the titular character, Dr. Conrad Hawkins. The series was renewed for a second season on May 7, 2018,[13] a third season on March 25, 2019,[14] and a fourth season in May 2020.[citation needed] The drama was then renewed for a fifth and sixth season, concluding in 2023.
In 2023, Czuchry starred in Ryan Murphy'sDelicate, the 12th installment ofAmerican Horror Story, as Dex Harding Jr..
Czuchry appeared in the filmsEight Legged Freaks andSlap Her... She's French. He played the lead role in the film adaptation ofTucker Max'sI Hope They Serve Beer in Hell.[15]
From September 11 to October 28, 2007, Czuchry performed inWendy Wasserstein's playThird oppositeChristine Lahti at theGeffen Playhouse.[16]
