Matt Carter (born May 13, 1981)[1] is an Americanstock car racing driver and the son of formerNASCAR Sprint Cup Series car ownerTravis Carter.

Early career

Before moving on to ARCA and NASCAR, Carter ran in theUSAR Hooters Pro Cup Series, where he was named Rookie of the Year in 2004. He scored one win in the series, coming atIowa Speedway in September 2007.[2]

ARCA

Carter made his debut in the series in 2008. He replacedFrank Kimmel in the No. 46 Stine SeedFord for Larry Clement and made a run for the championship. He won his first career race atToledo Speedway after starting 13th. Carted ended the year 3rd in points, earning one win and fourteen top 10s. He also earned Rookie of the Year honors. In 2009, Carter only ran his two races as the No. 46 team cut back its schedule. His best finish was 16th atIowa Speedway.

NASCAR

Carter's only careerCamping World Truck Series start came in 2003 atMartinsville Speedway. Driving the No. 96 HeavyTruckDealers.comDodge forCarl Long, he finished 17th after starting 14th.

Carter made his then-NASCARBusch Series debut in 2007 atMemphis Motorsports Park. Driving the No. 40Dodge forSpecialty Racing, he started 31st and finished 39th after a crash midway through the race.

Carter returned to the Nationwide Series and the team in 2009, replacingBrandon Whitt in the No. 61 Ford atNew Hampshire.[3] In 15 starts, Carter earned three top 20 finishes, including a career-best of 12th atBristol Motor Speedway. After theDollar General 300, he left the team, citing increased frustration with the direction of the team.[4] He was replaced byKenny Hendrick andJason Bowles. Carter returned to the Nationwide Series in 2011, driving primarily forstart and park operation Fleur-de-lis Motorsports.

Carter made his first start of the 2012 season in the Nationwide Series atDover International Speedway in June forRick Ware Racing.[5]

In 2014, Carter joinedJGL Racing.[6]
