Matsuo Sugano (Japanese:菅野 松男,Hepburn:Sugano Matsuo; born 1939) is a Japaneseastronomer.
He has discovered a number ofasteroids, including5881 Akashi (with T. Nomura),[1]6559 Nomura (with K. Kawanishi),[2] and8892 Kakogawa (with T. Nomura).[3] He was also a co-discoverer ofComet Sugano-Saigusa-Fujikawa (C/1983 J1).[4]
The asteroid5872 Sugano is named after him.[5] Asteroid6155 Yokosugano was named for his wife, Yoko.[6]
A long-time employee of Akashi Municipal Planetarium inAkashi, Hyōgo, Sugano worked to developamateur astronomy in Japan.[5]
