Mathieu Baumel (born 17 January 1976) is a Frenchrally raid co-driver competing in theWorld Rally-Raid Championship. AlongsideNasser Al-Attiyah, he won theDakar Rally five times, theFIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies four times, and theWorld Rally-Raid Championship twice.[1][2][3]

Baumel parted ways with Al-Attiyah after the2024 Dakar Rally. He reunited withGuerlain Chicherit, with whom he ran the2005 and2006 Dakar Rallies, for theBP Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal later that year, before joiningGuillaume De Mévius at theX-raid Mini JCW Team.[4][5]

On 29 January 2025, Baumel was hit by a car whilst stopped to help the passengers of a broken down vehicle, later being placed into aninduced coma.[6][7] Baumel also suffered severe leg injuries, resulting in the amputation of his right leg.[8]
