Mathias Antonsen Normann (born 28 May 1996) is a Norwegian professionalfootballer who plays as adefensive midfielder forAl-Sailiya. He has also represented theNorway national team.

Club career

Normann was born inSvolvær.[3] He made his senior debut forBodø/Glimt on 24 April 2014 againstTverlandet; Bodø/Glimt won 5–0. Normann played forLofoten before he joinedBodø/Glimt.

On 16 August 2017, Normann joinedMolde FK on loan until the end of the2017 season.[4] On 26 January 2018, Molde announced that Normann's loan deal had been extended until the summer of 2018.[5]

On 28 January 2019, he signed with theRussian Premier League clubFC Rostov.[6]

On 29 August 2021, he joined English clubNorwich City on loan for the 2021–22 season, with an option to purchase.[7]

On 16 August 2022, Normann moved on loan toLecce in Italy.[8] On 18 August 2022, the Italian club announced Normann wouldn't be part of the team due to bureaucratic reasons.[9]

On 6 September 2022, Normann joinedDynamo Moscow on loan with an option to buy.[10]

In August 2023, he terminated the contract withFC Rostov and FC Dynamo unilaterally and left Russia. As the reason, fears for their safety due to the UAV attack onMoscow City were named.[11] Subsequently,FIFA ordered Normann to pay compensation to Rostov.[12]

On 20 August 2023, Normann joinedSaudi Pro League clubAl-Raed.[13]

International career

Normann made his debut for theNorway national team on 5 September 2019 in a2020 Euro qualifier against Malta, as a 76th-minute substitute forStefan Johansen.[14]

After he signed a contract with Russian sideDynamo Moscow, theNorwegian Football Federation banned him from playing for Norway.[15] Norwegian managerStåle Solbakken said: "We'll see if Mathias one day returns to the Norwegian national team, but right now it is completely out of the question", seemingly referring to theRussian invasion of Ukraine.[15]
