Matheus Silva Ferreira da Costa (born 14 January 1987) is a Brazilianfootballcoach, currently in charge ofGuarani.
Born inCuritiba, Costa playedfutsal atParaná but retired at early age. He subsequently worked atAtlético Paranaense,Coritiba andInternacional before joiningLevir Culpi's staff atFluminense in 2016.[1]
On 7 January 2017, Costa was namedWagner Lopes' assistant at Paraná.[2] In July, after Lopes andCristian de Souza were both sacked, he acted as an interim during a 4–1Série B home routing ofBrasil de Pelotas;[3] after the arrival ofLisca, he returned to his previous role.
On 2 September 2017, Lisca was sacked after altercations with the club's board and supposedly assaulting Costa;[4] he was later named interim manager. Late in the month, he was named permanent manager until the end of the year,[5] and achieved promotion to theSérie A.
Costa still left the club after his contract expired, and was appointed manager ofJoinville on 13 March 2018;[6] exactly two months later, he was sacked.[7] On 13 August, he was namedTcheco's assistant at Coritiba.[8]
In 2019, Costa also acted as interim atCoxa on two occasions, both after the dismissal ofArgel Fucks. On 3 April of that year, he returned to Paraná, replacing sackedDado Cavalcanti.[9] He left the club at the end of the year, and took overConfiança on 16 February.[10]
Costa was sacked byDragão on 16 September 2020, being subsequently replaced byDaniel Paulista,[11] and took overPaysandu in theSérie C two days later. On 21 October, he replaced longtime incumbentGerson Gusmão at the helm ofOperário Ferroviário in the second division.[12]
Costa was sacked by Operário on 29 September 2021,[13] and spent a period in charge ofBarra-SC before returning to the club on 26 July 2022.[14] On 24 October, after the club'srelegation, he left.[15]
On 22 February 2023, Costa took overSanto André.[16] He left the club on 28 July, after the elimination in the2023 Série D, and was named in charge ofSérie C sideFloresta on 9 August.[17]
Released by Floresta on 4 September 2023, Costa was named in charge of fellow third division sideFerroviário sixteen days later,[18] but was sacked on 21 January 2024.[19] He later worked atFC Cascavel before being namedYpiranga-RS head coach on 23 October.[20]
On 27 July 2025, Costa resigned from Ypiranga after accepting an ofter from another third division club,[21] and was announced atGuarani the following day.[22]
