
TheMatachewan dike swarm is a large 2,500 to 2,450 million year oldPaleoproterozoicdike swarm ofNorthern Ontario,Canada. It consists ofbasalticdikes that wereintruded ingreenschist,granite-greenstone, and metamorphosed sedimentaryterrains of theSuperior Craton of theCanadian Shield.[1] With an area of 360,000 square kilometres (140,000 sq mi), the Matachewan dike swarm stands as alarge igneous province.[2]
