AMaster of Studies orMaster in Studies (M.St.,MSt, orMStud;Latin:Magister Studiorum)[1][2] is the holder of a postgraduate degree awarded by theUniversity of Oxford,University of Cambridge,University of St Andrews, theAustralian National University, theUniversity of Dublin,New Saint Andrews College,[3] and theUniversity of Newcastle (Australia). Depending on the degree, it is comparable to aMaster of Arts,Master of Business Administration,Master of Laws,Master of Philosophy, andMaster of Science.
Its creation was necessitated partly by the fact that theMaster of Arts degree at Oxford, Cambridge, and Dublin is awarded to most graduates after a certain period of time. In contrast, the degree of Master of Studies requires completion of a specific course of academic studies and the approval of athesis.[2]
